Police in Warren County quickly and carefully rescued a distressed deer who was found with its antlers stuck in a fence. Washington Township police officers Overko, Wheeler and Peco were called Tuesday to the scene, where the rescue was captured in a brief but heartwarming video. A New Jersey man has been infected with a rare mosquito-borne virus, state health officials confirmed Wednesday. A Sussex County man in his 60s started suffering a fever and various neurological symptoms in May and later tested positive for the Jamestown Canyon virus, marking the state’s first detection of a mosquito-borne disease this year. After a moose was spotted on the UConn campus, Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is advising motorists to be watchful of increased deer and moose activity along roadways. Oh, deer. Firefighters in Gloucester County encountered an unusual emergency on Tuesday. Mantua Township police received a call at 5:40 a.m. about a deer stuck between the bars of a fence along Wenonah Avenue near McCarthy Avenue. Crews arrived and were able to spread the iron posts, freeing the rear end of the deer, according to this Facebook video posted by the Mantua Fire Department. : Warren County Volunteer Firefighters Rescue Deer Trapped In Silver Lake Ice
Rescue crews in Warren County jumped to action to save the life of a deer that fell through thin ice on Silver Lake Wednesday afternoon. Station 38 Fire responded to the lake equipped with ice rescue suits around 4:15 p.m. and found the deer submerged up to its legs, the department said on Facebook. The deer was quickly wrangled to shore by Hope Volunteer Fire Department members Francis Giambrone and Terry Urfer, officials said. “The young gal was happy to be back on dry land and scampered off,” the post said. “Hopefully she stays off the ice until it gets a little thicker.”

A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a crash involving a deer in Fairfield County. It happened on Friday, Nov. 20 at approximately 3:40 p.m. in the area of 100 Hillspoint Road in Westport. Car Crashes Down Embankment After Woman Swerves To Avoid Deer On Route 202
A car crashed down an embankment after a woman swerved the vehicle to avoid a deer in the Hudson Valley, according to police. The incident happened early Saturday afternoon, Oct. 3 in Rockland County on Route 202, just west of Mayer Drive in the Village of Montebello. The vehicle rolled over after going down the embanked, Ramapo Police said. Luckily, this driver was not injured. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a warning about “zombie deer disease” that impacts deer, elk and moose. The CDC issued a warning about cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (also known as CWD or the “zombie deer disease”) after several cases cropped up throughout the country. New York continues to be a hotspot for deer hunters, with 2018 marking the third consecutive year that the kill count has increased. A mysterious skeleton found Saturday by a Hackensack man in the Pequannock River has been identified by wildlife experts as a deer. Michael Rawlins, originally of Elmwood Park, was out for a hike in Pompton Lakes when he saw the bones floating in the river.
